SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A sinkhole in the RiverWalk Park alongside Ichabod's Landing has village officials concerned about the retaining wall underneath the property.
“We're concerned that the sinkhole is a sign of a bigger problem,” Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio said.
Trustees recently voted to sign a contract with McLaren Engineering to examine the bulkhead for the cost of $5,700.
The sinkhole has been developing for a few months just before the gazebo on the RiverWalk park. Engineers will be diving underwater to look at the bulkhead from the General Motors site to where the sinkhole is.
Giaccio noted that the engineers specialize in this kind of work, having done a lot in Tarrytown and Dobbs Ferry. McLaren Engineering is also working on the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse as part of the county's restoration project.
Engineers could “get out there now as long as the weather holds,” Giaccio noted.
